Memorial Day Observed Monday, May 25, 2020 - When at school we would have had a flag parade and placed our flags around the Highland Sign. New This Week May 11 - May 15

    ELA

Use the ELA reference materials in the Shut Down section for reference. Practice reading, writing words and sentences.

New this week I am introducing the word family /ing/. /ing/ can be used as a sound chunk to make a word and can be added to the end of an exhisting word to make a new word. We will focus on using it as a sound chunck to make a word. ex king, ring

    -ing Riddles

As your kids are writing they might try to finger spell a word like jumping and spell it jumpin. Draw their attention to the /ing/ at the end. Often /ing/ at the end of word makes the word an action word (verb) that is happening right now. ex. jumping, running

New Flip Grid: -ing Word Family, reading words and spelling words, dictation sentence to finish the lesson. Students will write the sentence that I dictate at the end of the video, draw a picture to go with it and post a video of themselves reading it back and showing their illustration. Mid week I will put a new flip grid up that reviews /ing/ as well as other sounds we have learned. I will follow the read and spell format with a dictation sentence at the end again.

I posted a packet for -ing practice on See Saw as well as linkied it to my - Daily Check In e-mail.
