Lake Shore Freshmen Excel in Global Writing Competition

Worldwide Recognition for These Lake Shore Writers

Lake Shore English teacher Katerina Koutsandreas and technology integrator Mike Drezek teamed up to have Ms. Koutsandreas' 9th grade English classes participate in a digital story writing contest through Global Write. Organizers of the contest, which was open to students from all over the world, awarded Ms. Koutsandreas' class a Class Prize for its "really incredible entries," specifically citing the stories "The 'Leave' Town," by James Manning; "Gone Missing," by Sarah Shank, and "Runaway," by Sara Ellis.

In addition to designating the class as Overall Winner, student Sarah Shank won the Gr 7-12 category for her "Gone Missing" entry.

“I am so proud of the work all of these students did on this project,” said Ms. Koutsandreas. “It is inspiring when students are so passionate about what they are doing that they can take the lead and I can become the facilitator there for guidance and support! They truly wrote their hearts out and then brought those stories to life with Buncee (a big thank you to Mr. Drezek for his awesome tutorial). These young writers took ownership over their creations and I'm glad they are getting the recognition they deserve!”
