Jordan Lerner is a dynamic instrumentalist and passionate educator originally from the New York City area and currently based in Rochester, NY. Known for his student-centered teaching approach, Lerner brings years of experience teaching saxophone, piano, music theory, and improvisation to learners of all ages and skill levels.
With a strong foundation in classical piano—having studied for 10 years—Lerner later discovered his love for jazz and improvisation. He holds a dual degree in Music Performance from the Eastman School of Music and Psychology from the University of Rochester, blending his understanding of music and the human mind to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
Lerner’s performance credits include prestigious ensembles such as the Berklee Jazz Ensemble, U.S. All-Eastern Jazz Ensemble, U.S. All-National Jazz Band, and the Eastman Jazz Ensemble. He has shared the stage with legendary groups and artists including The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The O’Jays, Taru Alexander, and Ryan Devlin. His musical journey has also been shaped by working with esteemed directors and musicians such as Bill Dobbins, Michael Davis, Tony Kadleck, Dave Pietro, and Danilo Perez.
Deeply appreciative of his mentors, Lerner has studied under renowned musicians including Paner Ying, Charles Pillow, Ted Nash, Ed Joffe, and Gary Smulyan, among others.
