Information Regarding LSCSD Re-Opening Plan

Information Regarding Reopening Plan for September 2020

The Lake Shore Central School District is currently developing our reopening plan for the Fall of 2020.

Please know that student and faculty/staff safety is our top priority as we work to implement the guidance from the New York State Education Department (“NYSED”,, the New York State Department of Health ((“NYDOH”, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”).

Instruction Plan

In accordance with the NYSED Guidance, we have considered three options for returning to school:  in-person instruction (all students report to school five days a week), hybrid instruction (a combination of in-person and remote instruction) and remote instruction.  The deadline for school districts to submit their plans to the State Education Department is Friday, July 31, 2020. The governor has announced that final decisions regarding the reopening of schools will be made by Friday, August 7, 2020.  Our full re-opening plan will be posted on our District website as soon as all details are finalized.

Based on the information we have available today, the LSCSD intends to implement hybrid instruction in September of 2020.

Under this plan:

  • Students will be placed in two groups: Group A and Group B. Students from the same family/household will be assigned to the same Group.
  • Group A will attend school for full day In-Person instruction on Tuesday and Wednesday (Remote Learning on Monday, Thursday and Friday)
  • Group B will attend school for full day In-Person instruction on Thursday and Friday. (Remote Learning on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday)
  • Students will be required to wear masks on buses and when social distancing of 6 feet cannot be maintained
  • Students in each Group will be assigned to smaller groups and will remain with the same cohort to the extent possible, in an effort to minimize interactions and contact with students in other cohorts.  The size of each cohort will depend on a number of factors including grade level, scheduling, and physical space (e.g., square footage in classrooms and other areas).

We will be prepared to transition to full in-person instruction or full remote instruction in the event that there is a loosening or tightening of restrictions from the NYSED, NYDOH, CDC or the Governor.  Details will be included in our reopening plan.

We will implement procedures and protocols regarding health screenings, face coverings, PPE, cleaning and disinfecting, and social distancing, among many other areas identified in the guidance.

In order to properly prepare for these options, we need to determine which students will attend school under our intended hybrid model of instruction and which students will need transportation provided by the District.  In an effort to inform our planning, we are asking all parents to complete a brief questionnaire  by July 31, 2020.

If you are unable to complete the questionnaire online, please call Kristine DeMartino at 926-2202 to complete the questionnaire over the phone.
