ECDOH Launches Free, Voluntary COVID-19 Testing for Students & Staff

The Lake Shore Central School District is now offering an opportunity for two types of FREE, VOLUNTARY COVID-19 testing for students (PK-12) and staff in a collaboration with the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH).

The testing programs are:
VOLUNTARY Surveillance Testing ... This mitigation strategy to reduce the spread of COVID-19 will help maintain a safe community and full in-person instruction. This testing is conducted via a self-administered, non-invasive oral swab under the supervision of a healthcare professional. This model will test 10% of participating staff members and students (with parental consent) weekly.

VOLUNTARY Proximal Testing ... This testing is available to individuals who were exposed to COVID-19 in the classroom and are not designated a 'close contact' but are considered a 'proximal contact' because they are in the same airspace as the infected individual. Proximal contacts are not subject to quarantine unless they are symptomatic. Proximal testing is conducted via a self-administered, non-invasive oral swab under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

This OPTIONAL, VOLUNTARY program is an effort to assure continuation of in-person learning experiences by reducing the risks of COVID-19 disease among students and staff. All in-person PK-12 students and staff, including individuals who have been vaccinated, are invited to participate.

Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein describes testing and step by step registration video. The actual directions for registering for the testing begin at two minutes and 28 seconds into the video. Please note, to participate, you must complete the online registration for both the Erie County Department of Health AND Quadrant Labs.
