Every Monday your child will receive a WOW word, Word Of the Week. A WOW word is a vocabulary word that most 6th graders do not know. Your child is expected to write the word in the box and make an educated guess as to what the WOW word means. After we share some guesses in class, I then read a poem or a story with the WOW word in it. After listening, the students use context clues to decide what the word means. By Thursday, each student has to find two synonyms for the WOW word, two antonyms, put the WOW in a sentence the correct way, and color/draw a picture that relates to their sentence. After every five WOW words, the students will receive a study guide and be tested on each of the words. The WOW words will be on their final exam.
