Mrs. Jennifer Kenny

2022-2023 marks the 22nd year that Mrs. Kenny has been a music educator in New York State.  This is currently her 16th year at Lake Shore Middle School as the director of 6th & 8th grade bands.  Prior to coming to Lake Shore, Mrs. Kenny taught Middle and High school band at Ellicottville Central School for five years and spent one year as the 4th & 5th grade band and orchestra teacher at Booth Elementary in the Elmira City School District.
 
Mrs. Kenny's bands have a strong history of performance success.  Over the years, her bands have taken multiple 1st place trophies at the Darien Lake Music Festival and have received New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) ratings of Silver and Gold.  The Lake Shore Middle School 6th and 8th Grade Bands have also won Grand Champions at Darien Lake as well as Gold with Distinction at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Spring Major Ensemble Evaluation Festival in recent years.  Additionally, many Lake Shore Middle School students participate in Erie County Music Educators Association (ECMEA) and New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo festivals and are often selected for Area All State and All county ensembles. 
 
Mrs. Kenny holds Bachelor of Music degrees from SUNY Fredonia in Music Education and Music Performance.  While at Fredonia, she served as the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC) Chapter President, a state zone representative for Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC) and was on the board of Fredonia's founding New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) Chapter.  She was a member of the top bands and orchestras as a trumpet player her entire time there, as well as being a two time concerto competition finalist.  Mrs. Kenny obtained a Masters degree in Music Performance from Illinois State University, where she had a full graduate assistantship.  In 2009, Mrs. Kenny completed a second Masters degree in Educational Leadership from St. Bonaventure University and, in addition to New York State Music Certification, also holds certification as a School Building Leader.  She continues to perform actively with several local ensembles and has a private lesson studio out of her home.   She is a member of Erie County Music Educators Association (ECMEA), New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), NAofME and New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA).   She is also a certified New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All State Adjudicator and frequent judge for state and county solo festivals.  
 
Mrs. Kenny resides in Hamburg with her husband, her two sons and two step sons (yes, FOUR boys!).
