• Spanish 7 curriculum:

     Students are introduced to the Spanish language.

     The textbook used is Venconmigo level I. 

    In 7th grade we cover chapters 1-6 beginning with an introduction of the Spanish language, where it is spoken, the alphabet and basic phrases.

    Students are encouraged to use the language daily; to review each day what is coverd in class.

    Each day students are engaged in activities to help them become proficient in 4 targeted areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking in Spanish.

    The following locations are highlighted in 7th grade: Spain, Mexico and Miami, Florida.

    Culture is also a big part of our lessons.  Students will learn about family life, school life, sports, holidays, food, music and more.

    Homework assignments are given Monday - Thursday.  Homework is not usually assigned on the weekends or over holidays.

    At the end of the year students will take a final exam of the the material covered during the year.

     

    Spanish 8 curriculum:

      Students will begin the year with a short review of material covered in 7th grade.

    In 8th grade we will finish the text book chapters 7-12.  The locations covered are Ecuador, San Antonio, Texas and Puerto Rico.

    Students are encouraged to use and review the language and lessons learned daily.

    Each day students are engaged in activities to help them become proficient in the 4 targeted areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking in Spanish.

    We will also continue to learn about the Spanish/Hispanic cultures around the world.

    Homework assignments are given Monday-Thursday.  Homework is not usually assigned on the weekends or over holidays.

    The students will take a final exam equivalent to the New York state proficiency exam.  Students are required to pass this exam in order to earn 1 unit of High School credit.  This credit is mandatory for graduation from High School.
