Overview: Exploratory Art provides the opportunity for students to examine and explore art materials and the various methods of using these materials according to the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts. Throughout the 10 weeks, I will introduce past as well as present cultures and related artists. This will give the student a better understanding of art and the basis behind various styles. Projects will allow for individual creativity, and should reflect information synthesized from notes and demonstrations. Every student who exhibits an interest and puts forth effort necessary to succeed will do so.
-
Classroom Procedures: All students are here to learn, so it is the responsibility of each student to listen to the lesson and participate in classroom activities every day. All students are to respect the rights of others in the classroom and show common courtesy at all times. All students are expected to exhibit good behavior by following the students handbook and regulations as well as the Art Room rules. All students must be prepared with a PENCIL everyday. (This pencil can be left in your art portfolio to ensure you have one daily)
-
Assignments: All work should be handed in clean, unwrinkled and unfolded. Projects are to be completed neatly and in a timely manner before the end of the marking period. Projects that are done carelessly are not quality work, and therefore will not be considered as completed assignments. When you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the notes and assignments. Please let me know ahead of time if you know that you will be absent from class (example: Vacation, lesson, appointment).
-
Grading Policy: All projects are worth a total of 100 points. The only deadline or due date for these projects is the Thursday before the end of the marking period. (Students do not lose points based on when they turn the project in, as long as it is turned in within the above time frame). The 100 points will be compiled of Requirements (50 points), Creativity (25 points), Craftsmanship (15 points) and Performance (10 points).

Ninth/Tenth or Help Class: This is available Tuesday – Thursday until 3:05. This time is used for enrichment, review, completion of required projects and disciplinary actions. If you are requested to stay, usually one day's notice is given. As adviser to the Art Club this time is not always available due to meetings. Please plan accordingly.
-
Art Show: All artwork will be kept in the student's portfolio in the Art Room until after the Art Shows, which will be held in conjunction with the Winter and Spring concerts. Additional information will be sent home at a later date.
