The students created their pumpkin drawing after learning about Simple Perspective. They used size, placement, overlapping and shading. To make their two dimensional drawing look three dimensional.
Learning about the colorwheel was the inspiration for coloring these macaw drawings. The students followed a step by step sheet to draw their macaw and then used colored pencils to color in rainbow order. They learned sign language for each of the colors.
The 4th grade students heard the story Ocean Whisper by Dennis Rockhill before starting their project. They painted and ripped paper to create their sky and water. They followed a step by step process to create their Origami sailboats.

The students learned about Wilson Bentley (“Snowflake Bentley”) and the invention of the Photomicroscope. They watched a video on the book Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin and saw several images of snowflakes. They drew the design making sure they had 6 points or sides. After outlining with marker they added color with watercolor paint showing value.(The lightness or darkness of a color)
The 4th grade students participated in a Square 1 Art fundraiser this year. After drawing an initial they filled the background with patterns. They learned about the colorwheel and picked a specific color scheme for their background.
The 4th grade students learned some interesting facts about peacocks. They created symmetrical designs on their peacock’s tail feathers. The final step was to use cool colored markers to add color.
The 4th grade students learned about the popularity of self portraits among artists. They practiced drawing the face step by step, paying special attention to the placement of the facial features. After drawing their self portrait on black paper they outlined it with glue. They used chalk pastels to add the color, blending different colors to get the right skin tone or hair color.
