The 5th grade students participated in a Square 1 Art fundraiser. They created these beautiful lighthouse scenes by following a step by step sheet and coloring dark with colored pencils.
After reading a book on Vincent VanGogh the students used his sunflower paintings as inspiration. They used glue and chalk pastel to create their own sunflowers.
As a first step the 5th grade students used masking tape for their tree trunks. They used the wet on wet watercolor technique to create the background for their autumn landscapes. After the background was dry they pulled off the tape and added shadows and marks for the birch bark. Tempera paint and cotton swabs were used for the leaves
Students created abstract symmetrical designs using watercolor paint. They practiced showing value with the paint.
The students started off their project learning about Perspective drawing in Art, making a two dimensional drawing appear three dimensional. They focused on Linear Perspective and they practiced drawing boxes using One Point Perspective. They used this new skill to draw a dog house. The last step was to use step by step sheets to help them draw a dog.Colorwheel EyesThe students learned about the Color Wheel (Primary, Secondary, & Intermediate colors) They drew an eye and broke up the iris in to enough sections to turn it into a color wheel. They practiced their color mixing skills by creating all the secondary and intermediate colors. After reading a book on Vincent VanGogh the students used his sunflower paintings as inspiration. The students learned that there are no mistakes when making zentangles and they learned if they did make a “mistake” they just had to make it work with their design. To help them appreciate that creating zentangles can be a form of meditation, they worked in silence while listening to relaxing sounds and music. The students started off their project learning about Perspective drawing in Art, making a two dimensional drawing appear three dimensional.
