Hello Lake Shore Families!
Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! We hope you all have enjoyed this beautiful summer!
We are so excited to be returning to our Life Skills classroom in Room 119, which is located in the West end of the high school. Our kitchen is adjacent to our classroom, and is also ready to practice independent daily living skills, such as cooking, cleaning (basic household tasks) and doing laundry for our Eagles Closet. If you are interested in donating gently used clothing, you may send items to Room 119. Thank you! We appreciate your participation in this wonderful community endeavor. There is more information about Eagles Closet under the Lake Shore Family Support Center.
Here is a list of supplies that will be needed for this school year.
- pencils
- colored pencils
- crayons
- Elmer's Glue stick
- one sturdy plastic folder with pockets (any color) to be used as a take home/communication folder
- backpack to be brought each day with the take home folder.
- 1 box of tissues
The Life Skills Program uses the Unique Learning System as the classroom curriculum. The curriculum program has been designed and differentiated specifically for students with special learning needs. While the foundation of Unique is the content standards (Reading, Writing, Math, and Science/ Social Studies), the lessons are modified to make sure that all students have a way to participate and learn. There is a strong emphasis on life skills that are embedded in each lesson. Unique Learning System has a High School/ Transition Grade Band with Instructional Targets which are as follows:
- Employability
- Daily Living
- Community Living
- Personal Life
- Lifelong Learning
We also follow the Dynamic Learning Maps, which outlines the NYS Alternate Assessments. These Essential Elements coincide with the NYS Common Core Standards.
I will be sending home a monthly newsletter to keep you informed on our lessons and activities throughout the year. It will also be posted on this website as well.
Please feel free to call the classroom at 926-3799 or email me at maureen.reichert@lscsd.org if you ever have any questions or concerns throughout the year and I will be happy to get back to you as soon as possible.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year in our Life Skills program! Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Maureen Reichert
