Student-Led "Hygiene Closet" Initiative Launches at Lake Shore Senior High School

ANGOLA, NY – At Lake Shore Senior High School, the "Civics in Action" curriculum is moving beyond the textbook and into the hallways. Three dedicated students—Megan Vesper, Lily Rose, and Ciera Dion—are spearheading a new project to ensure no student goes without essential daily supplies: the Lake Shore Hygiene Closet.
Recognizing that rising costs have impacted many local families, the trio proposed the creation of a permanent resource within the school. The "Hygiene Closet" will provide students with free access to essential items like soap, shampoo, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products.
How the Community Can Help
To stock the closet for its grand opening, the students are launching a school-wide donation drive. The collection will run from Tuesday, May 12 through Friday, May 22, 2026. Suggested items for donation include:
-
Shampoo and Conditioner
-
Body Wash and Soap
-
Deodorant
-
Toothbrushes and Toothpaste
-
Feminine Hygiene Products
Donation buckets are located throughout the Senior High School building, with a primary collection point in the Faculty Room.
A Permanent Resource
While the drive ends on May 22, the Hygiene Closet is here to stay. The students plan to establish the closet as a permanent feature within the high school’s existing clothes closet, ensuring that support remains available to any student in need throughout the school year.
By fostering student-led initiatives like this, Lake Shore continues to demonstrate the power of a community dedicated to the success and well-being of every student.
