Lake Shore Students Take a Stand for Red Ribbon Week

Students across the Lake Shore Central School District came together October 23–31 to celebrate Red Ribbon Week 2025, promoting healthy, drug-free lifestyles through classroom discussions, spirit days, and community engagement.
The highlight of the week took place on Tuesday, October 28, when students and staff from William G. Houston Middle School lined Route 5 for “Take a Stand Day.” Wearing red and holding handmade signs, participants showed their unity and commitment to making positive choices.
The event was organized by the middle school’s Community Service & Volunteering Club, Leaders in Training, and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), with support from teachers and administrators across the district. Elementary schools joined in with themed days and activities, while high school students organized awareness events of their own.
“This was a powerful reminder that our students are leaders in every sense,” said Superintendent Phil Johnson. “Their energy and teamwork reflect Lake Shore’s ongoing commitment to building a safe, supportive, and healthy environment for all.”
Red Ribbon Week remains a meaningful tradition across Lake Shore schools—reinforcing the district’s One Lake Shore mission: rooted in tradition, ready for tomorrow.
