2025–2026 Lead in Drinking Water Testing

2025–2026 Lead in Drinking Water Testing Report

The Lake Shore Central School District, in accordance with New York State Subpart 67-4, has completed its triennial lead in drinking water testing for the 2025–2026 cycle. Protecting public health is our top priority, and these mandated tests ensure our facilities meet the most recent safety standards.

Understanding the New Standards

In 2022, New York State lowered the acceptable "Action Level" for lead in school drinking water from 15 parts per billion (ppb) to 5 ppb. As a result, some water outlets that met previous safety standards now require remediation to meet these stricter benchmarks.

Our Results & Response

In accordance with regulations, the District has tested all potable water outlets in our educational buildings. Any outlet found to be at a level above 5 ppb was addressed immediately:

  • Immediate Mitigation: Outlets exceeding the threshold were valved off or labeled as non-potable for handwashing only to prevent consumption.
  • Remediation Plan: Our facilities team is currently addressing each affected fixture and plumbing component at these specific locations.
  • Follow-up Testing: These outlets will remain out of service for drinking or cooking until follow-up testing confirms lead levels are at or below 5 ppb.
