Beyond the Breach: Lake Shore Leads Regional Cyber Governance Summit

Securing the Future: Lake Shore Hosts "Beyond the Breach" Workshop
ANGOLA, NY – Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical concern relegated to the I.T. department; it is a critical matter of district governance and continuity. On May 1, 2026, Lake Shore Central School District stood at the forefront of this shift, hosting the "Beyond the Breach" Cyber Governance Conference at Seneca One in Buffalo.
Led by District Data Protection Officer Michelle Krieger, the summit brought together a regional powerhouse of superintendents, technology professionals, and data privacy experts. The day was designed to move districts from passive compliance to active accountability, specifically focusing on the upcoming transition to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0 mandated for the 2026 school year.
A Collaborative Defense
The event featured a specialized panel of industry leaders, including Antoinette King (Credo Cyber Consulting), Scott Morris (The Beckage Firm), and Randy Glenn (Gallagher Insurance). These experts provided candid insights into the intersection of physical safety, legal privilege, and the rigorous requirements of the K-12 insurance market.
Attendees participated in high-stakes tabletop simulations, stress-testing their incident response plans against realistic scenarios like unencrypted data leaks and business email compromises. These "stress tests" allowed district leaders to identify critical gaps in policy and communication before they manifest as a crisis.
Rooted in Readiness
“Data privacy is an organizational mission,” said Michelle Krieger. “By bringing our peers together in this environment, we ensure that every student-athlete and student in our region is protected by a leadership team that is prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.”
As Lake Shore continues to prioritize the "Govern" function of NIST 2.0, the district looks forward to making this summit an annual tradition, fostering a culture of security and "Eagle Pride" across Western New York.
