Student Representative Saniya Seneca delivered her first report of the year at Monday night's Lake Shore Central School District Board of Education meeting, arriving straight from a soccer game to share a thoughtful, well-rounded update on activities across the district's schools.

The board also heard from High School Principal Dr. Katy Berner-Wallen, who presented this year's state assessment results. New York has been rolling out redesigned Regents exams over the past several years, and Dr. Berner-Wallen shared that Lake Shore students are adjusting well, with biology scores standing out as a bright spot and advanced math and science students continuing to perform strongly. Because the new exams demand more reading and reasoning from students, the district is adding extra support time and a renewed focus on reading skills across every subject, not just English class, to help students meet the challenge.

The evening included a proud personal milestone as well: Dr. Berner-Wallen presented a Lake Shore graduate with their Regents diploma, a moment met with smiles and applause from the board.

Rounding out the evening, Music Boosters president Stacy Capitummino shared updates on upcoming fundraisers and had a bit of proud-parent news to add: her son, Nicholas Capitummino, has been invited to perform with the 2026 NYSSMA All-State Mixed Chorus, one of the most prestigious honors available to a New York student musician.

From student leadership to academic progress to a well-earned musical spotlight, it was a night that reflected the many ways Lake Shore students continue to grow and shine. 🦅💚
