ANGOLA, NY – Students in Mr. Matthew Poole's Global History & Geography I classes at Lake Shore High School are using Minecraft Education to learn how life changed from the Paleolithic era to the Neolithic era. The project is taking place in the High School's eSports Room.

Students build two settlements. The first shows the Paleolithic era, when people moved from place to place to hunt and gather food. The second shows the Neolithic era, when people settled down, farmed the land and built homes that lasted. As they build, students take screenshots and write a short description of what each era had and why it mattered.

At the end, students put their screenshots and descriptions together into a presentation that compares the two eras side by side. It is a hands-on way to see how early people lived, and it mixes social studies with technology in a way students can actually walk around in.

The project also gives the eSports Room a new job. It is a place where Lake Shore students compete, and now it is a place where they learn history too. Technology Coordinator Mr. Drezek helped make that happen. He set up Minecraft Education in the room and handled the technical side during class, so Mr. Poole could focus on teaching.
