A parent or guardian opens the account with you. They finish it at the Radius Lake Shore Branch, not at school. No appointment needed.

Your first account

Why open an account?

For a lot of students, this is a first account. Here's what it can do for you.

01

Saving for prom, a car or college?

Put money in savings and keep it out of your wallet. Your first $25 makes you a member.

02

Tired of carrying cash?

Ages 13 and up with a photo ID get a debit card, online access and the mobile app.

03

Splitting the bill with friends?

Venmo, Apple Cash and Cash App all work with your account. Zelle opens up at 18.

04

Worried about fees?

No monthly fees. Radius is a not-for-profit credit union owned by its members.

Learning by doing works. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says hands-on practice is one of the best ways for young people to build money skills. Research from Washington University in St. Louis found that students with even small savings set aside for school were more likely to go to college.

Get started

Open your account

Anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers or goes to school in Erie County can join Radius. So can family of current members.

Academy of Business and Finance

The branch is the Academy's classroom

The Eagle Branch is run by students in Lake Shore High School's Academy of Business and Finance. The Academy is a three-year program built on career exploration, professional skills and real-world learning.

Working the branch is part of the program. Juniors interview for real jobs: manager, assistant managers, marketing managers and tellers. Then they serve students and staff every school day.

Academy students still take their regular Regents courses. The Academy adds to them.

Private by design

Student tellers never see your balance or account details. They take your request, and Radius staff complete the transaction. Real job, real responsibility, and your account stays private.

Questions

Good to know

I'm a parent. Can I use the Eagle Branch?

The Eagle Branch serves Lake Shore Central School District students and staff only. Parents and community members are welcome at the Radius Lake Shore Branch, 8766 Erie Rd. in Angola.

What is a credit union?

A credit union is a not-for-profit cooperative. The people who keep their money there are members, and members own it together.

Can student tellers see my account?

No. Student tellers don't have access to account balances or account details. They take your request, and Radius staff complete the transaction. That goes for students and staff alike.

Why does a parent need to be on my account?

Students under 18 need an adult as a joint owner. That can be a parent, guardian or another adult, like a grandparent, aunt, uncle or step-parent.

What if my parent can't come in during business hours?

No appointment is needed, so they can walk in any time the Lake Shore Branch is open. The Kenmore branch is also open Saturday mornings, 8:30 AM to noon. If neither works, call Radius at (716) 875-1747.

Are there any fees?

There are no monthly fees. You keep at least $25 in savings. That $25 is your share, and it makes you a member. If an account has no activity for 12 months, a $10 dormant fee applies.

Can I use Venmo or Zelle?

Venmo, Apple Cash and Cash App all work. Zelle is not available until age 18.

I was a Lake Shore FCU member. Do I need to do anything?

No. Lake Shore Federal Credit Union joined Radius. Every member became a Radius member automatically.
